At Maitland Animal Hospital, we understand that exotic pets have very different needs than dogs and cats. From birds to small mammals and reptiles, each species requires specialized knowledge and care.
Led by Dr. Hannah Barber, our team provides attentive, experienced veterinary services tailored to exotic pets in the Maitland and Orlando area. Whether your pet needs a routine checkup or treatment for an illness, we’re here to help them stay healthy and comfortable.
Your unique companion deserves care designed specifically for them

Because every exotic species is different, it’s important to work with a veterinary team that understands their unique needs. At Maitland Animal Hospital, we regularly care for:
• Pocket pets: guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, ferrets, rats, and mice
• Birds: parrots, cockatiels, finches, and chickens
• Reptiles and other exotics: seen on a case-by-case basis
No matter the species, our focus is always on supporting your pet’s health, comfort, and quality of life.

Pocket pets may be small, but their care is anything but simple. Our team provides comprehensive services to keep them healthy, including:
• Wellness exams and preventive care
• Nutrition and habitat guidance
• Nail trims and dental services
• Minor surgical procedures
If your pet shows signs of illness, we diagnose and treat common conditions such as respiratory infections, digestive issues, and more. Early care can make a significant difference in your pet’s health.
Choosing the right veterinarian for your exotic pet matters. At Maitland Animal Hospital, we combine experience, compassion, and species-specific knowledge to provide the highest level of care.
Under Dr. Hannah Barber’s leadership, our team is dedicated to supporting your pet through every stage of life—from preventive care to illness management.
When you visit us, you can feel confident your exotic companion is in capable, caring hands.
Schedule an appointment today and give your pet the specialized care they deserve.
Birds require especially attentive care due to their sensitive systems and tendency to hide illness. Routine veterinary visits are essential to keeping them healthy.
We offer:
• Regular health exams to monitor wellness
• Sick visits for prompt diagnosis and treatment
• Guidance on diet, housing, and daily care
• Beak, wing, and nail maintenance
Our goal is to help your bird live a long, active, and comfortable life.
Spaying and neutering can do more than prevent unwanted litters—it supports your pet’s overall health and behavior. Spay & neuter procedures lower the risk of certain cancers and infections, and help reduce behaviors like spraying, howling, or roaming. Choosing to spay & neuter your pet also means a calmer, healthier companion and a more peaceful home—for both of you. Pet parents rely on our vet clinic for expert spay and neuter services. Our hospital combines compassion with medical skill to ensure the best outcome for every Dog or Cat.

*Valid for new clients first exam only when booked and completed between 1 January and 30 June 2026. One pet per household. Please call with any questions!
Dr. Barber is a 2024 graduate of Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She was born and raised in Lawton, Oklahoma and decided to relocate to Florida after enjoying her time while working and studying at The University of Florida.
Prior to veterinary school, she worked as a wildlife infectious disease technician with the University of Florida studying white-tailed deer and other exotic livestock species. This fueled her passion in working with wildlife, exotics, and last but not least—small mammals. Small mammals hold a special place in Dr. Barber’s heart, as she even has one of her own, Pumpkin the Guinea pig. She also broadened her studies by helping edit a published exotics textbook.
Her love and knowledge of animals’ spreads far and wide. Whether your pet is a dog, cat, rodent, or even has wings, Dr. Barber would love to meet them.
Outside of work Dr. Barber spends her time exploring local coffee shops, checking out antique stores, riding rollercoasters, or finding a good deal while thrifting! If she’s not out and about, you will most likely find her reading a book, cuddled up to her 7-year-old lab mix, Minka
At Maitland Animal Hospital, we’re more than just a veterinary clinic—we’re your partner in your pet’s lifelong health. Our compassionate team is here for everything from wellness visits to life’s most important moments. As a trusted pet hospital, we offer a full range of veterinary services to keep your pets healthy and thriving.
